The changing face of Yangon

After over two decades in office, the military government of the State Peace and Development Council steps down. The new President Thein Sein was prime minister in the outgoing government, but introduces liberalising reforms under the new political system. The Tatmadaw retains a leading role in national politics. But bridges start to be built with the National League for Democracy whose leader, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, was released in November 2010 after nearly 15 years under house arrest.
